Honoring Mai Ong Xiong-Memorial for Funeral

On March 21, 2024, Mai Ong Xiong, a mother, daughter, wife, and a friend, unexpectedly and suddenly passed away at the age of 36. Lee and Mai were leaving for vacation on Monday, March 25, with their two children. They had been married for 17 years and share two younger children, Cagin and Sephora. He and their children are devastated by her passing.

The Lee and Xiong family were hit with tragedy just days prior. Lee’s father, who recently retired, suffered a stroke and is currently admitted, in critical condition at St. Lukes Hospital. Lee and Mai were making arrangements to care for him, if and when he was discharged from the hospital.

Their family has experienced a horrendous loss, with a lot of uncertainty. Lee is unsure how he will financially cope with medical bills for his father and unexpected funeral costs for his young wife.

Lee and Mai practice strong Hmong Culture and the family wishes to practice a traditional Hmong funeral. A Hmong funeral is held over three days and three nights, and funeral costs are expected to be high. Lee would also like to have his children continue to live with expectations set by both Lee and Mai. Lee and Mai worked long hours to assure their daughter could continue Hmong Dancing. However, Lee will now take on both roles. Their daughter, Sephora is a Hmong dancer and Mai was often her instructor. Cagin is a competitive athlete and was often supported by both of his parents.

Mai was extremely accomplished, earning multiple degrees and was a long time member of the Milwaukee Police Department. She will be truly missed by so many people. Lee would like me to thank all the people who have helped him during this difficult time, including members of the Milwaukee Police Department and Specialized Patrol Division. He appreciates the outpouring of love and support received.
