Sweet Mahalia came into this world on November 13, 2024, already facing challenges that most of us could never imagine. From her very first days, with a diagnosis of Down syndrome, she has shown nothing but strength, resilience, and a beautiful spirit that lights up every room. In just one year, she has grown into a joyful, loving little girl who captures the hearts of everyone she meets.

But now, Mahalia is facing the biggest battle of her life.

On Monday, March 16, what her parents, Brianna and Malik, thought was just a cold or flu quickly turned into something far more serious. After bringing her to Markham Stouffville Hospital, Mahalia was urgently transferred to SickKids in Toronto. Following countless tests and long, uncertain hours, doctors delivered devastating news: Mahalia has been diagnosed with myeloid leukemia.

In an instant, everything changed.

Over the next six months, Brianna, Malik, and Mahalia will be living in Toronto while she undergoes intensive treatment. Their days will be filled with hospitals, procedures, and the emotional weight of watching their little girl fight so bravely.
