Mahalia Smith's ACL reconstructive surgery
Donation protected
For those who know Mahalia, she uses her knees a lot.
A couple of months back, Mahalia ruptured her ACL playing soccer and requires surgery to repair it. Unfortunately, this operation is not covered by insurance. She was given the tough decision to either wait 1-2 years for the operation through the public system, or pay the $10,000 to do it privately. With the 12-month recovery that follows the operation and wanting to move into an active career that requires functional knees, Mahalia and her family have decided to pursue getting the surgery privately. She has her surgery scheduled for late September. Mahalia has a big 12 months of rehabilitation ahead of her!
$10,000 for an operation is a massive burden to take on just out of college. I have started this page as a place where people can contribute to lightening this burden.
Mahalia is not the sort of person who would normally reach out for help, but she is often one of the first to be there for others.
