Magdalena's Miracle - Time to Fight

“Cancer cannot cripple love, it cannot shatter hope, it cannot conquer our spirit!”

In early March of 2021, Magdalena (Mag) and her husband Alex found themselves in a doctor’s office trying to absorb the words no family could ever be prepared to hear. “It is Cancer. It has spread. We need to discuss treatment.” That day, Mag was diagnosed with a high grade, stage 4, Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma (UPS). UPS is an extremely rare and aggressive form of cancer requiring rigorous and extensive treatment to try to slow the spread and combat the disease.

For those of you who know Mag, Alex, and their beautiful daughter Alena, you’re already aware of just how special they truly are. Their story is one of love, hope, and inspiration. Everything from how they met traveling abroad, knowing that there were thousands of miles between where each of them were from, speaking completely different languages… a Miracle happened. They fell deeply in love, traveled the globe, got married in Bali, and then later decided to plant roots here in the US. It was here that they survived their first bout of cancer, and despite the many odds… then brought their very own Miracle, their daughter Alena, into this world in September of 2019.

One could say that their entire journey is the embodiment of the word Miracle. They are proof that miracles can and do happen all around us. So, it should come as no surprise that another Miracle is exactly what we need and expect for Mag, here and now.

Deciding to fight is going to require so much of Mag, her family, and her friends. The road ahead is full of new obstacles and new challenges. Because this is such a rare and aggressive form of cancer, it has already required that Mag and Alex drop everything to travel and be seen by specialists across the country. This is all to ensure that Mag gets the best possible treatment available and to leave no stone unturned. They will need to remain mobile to afford Mag the best possible chances for trial acceptances and access to even more cutting-edge treatments all over the globe.

This is a call to action! We need to support this beautiful family and help play our part in the manifestation of Magdalena’s next Miracle. With the costs of the travel required to keep her in front of these experts, the costs to relocate to wherever the best treatments may be available at a moment's notice, the foreseeable loss of wages alongside the ongoing costs of insurance premiums, heavy deductibles, and max out of pockets and, of course, all the unknown... There is a tangible way we can all help! 

Cancer clearly knows no bounds, but as you can imagine, the availability of the funds necessary to fight may if not for our help! To add even more context, some of these cutting-edge treatments that lie ahead are likely to not be covered by insurance. These treatments carry costs in the hundreds of thousands per session.  So again, the road ahead is long, but we can all be a part of helping in their journey. No donation can possibly be too big or too small. The news of this diagnosis itself is a lesson that every moment is precious. If we can lift each other up, we should… and by any means possible.
