Magnus Needs Surgery: Help Save Scotts Bestfriend
Dear Dog Lovers and Kind Hearts,
Meet Magnus, a resilient German Shepherd with a heart of gold and a story that will tug at your soul. Found wandering the streets and taken to the Humane Society in Missouri, Magnus was alone, unnamed, and unclaimed. Despite his striking appearance, he was overlooked at the shelter—adopted and returned three times due to his lack of training and “problem dog” label. For months, he languished in “puppy jail,” misunderstood and unwanted.
That’s when I saw Magnus’s potential. As a lifelong German Shepherd lover, I asked my father, an exceptional dog trainer, to visit him at the shelter. With the support of a compassionate Animal Control Officer who believed in Magnus, they allowed my father to foster him and teach him trust and manners. Magnus was so broken that it took three weeks of hand-feeding just to get him to make eye contact. But with daily effort, he blossomed into a loyal, loving dog. When we finally met, our bond was instant—two souls meant to be together, joined at the hip.
Magnus and I moved to Clearwater, Florida, for a dog-friendly job opportunity. Selling my Missouri home, we bought a new one in pricey Clearwater, excited for a fresh start. Magnus charmed everyone at my workplace, becoming a beloved visitor favorite. But then, the company closed its Clearwater location, leaving me jobless in an expensive new home.
Losing my job sent me into a rough patch. I worked two jobs to stay afloat, but it was Magnus who kept me going. His positive attitude and eagerness for walks and park trips lifted my spirits during those dark days. We spent hours at local parks, me job-searching on my phone with one hand while throwing a ball for Magnus with the other. His wagging tail and joyful energy reminded me to keep pushing forward. Without him, that time would have been unbearable. Thankfully, things turned around when I landed a job with a financial advisor, and I’m now working in their office. But the financial strain from that period, combined with Magnus’s health crisis, has made support necessary.
Magnus developed a painful, swollen mass on his nipple with a yellowish discharge.
Veterinary tests revealed a concerning epithelial proliferation, possibly a rare mammary tumor in a male dog. The vet urgently recommends surgery to remove the mass and a biopsy to check for cancer. The estimated cost is $2,400–$2,600—a sum I can’t cover alone. Magnus is my best friend and constant companion through tough times, and I’m heartbroken at the thought of not being able to help him.
We’re asking for your help to fund Magnus’s surgery, biopsy, and follow-up care. Every dollar will go directly to these veterinary expenses, giving Magnus a chance to keep wagging his tail by my side on our long walks.
Fundraising Goal: $2,600 to cover Magnus’s surgery, biopsy, and related veterinary expenses.
