Magnus Bean Gets Surgery

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Magnus Bean.

I'm 5 years old and very busy. When I was a kitten, I was found outside at a local cat colony. The careperson knew the other cats had been TNRed and took me inside and contacted a local rescue. From there I lived with my fantastic foster, who then gave me to my moms. I was sick as a kitten, but my moms found out that I have a Grade 1 heart murmur, but my heart is structurally sound and that I have a beef allergy. They also learned at that time that I had luxating patellas (dislocating knees).

I never let anything stand in my way! But last month, I started slowing down suddenly. And I started limping occasionally. I had already had x-rays, so the vet sent mom and me over to the specialty vet. He says I need surgery on my knees, or my busy days are over.

Magnus's Moms here - We had a very comprehensive quote from the vet's office. It's inclusive of x-rays, his overnight stay and his follow up visit and x-rays. The quote is competitive to average cost for double-knee surgery across Canada despite being from a specialist. His knees are a pre-existing condition and we've already spent the $1,500 allotment for the year (June to June for Magnus) on his initial x-rays and surgical consult.

As a very busy cat who enjoys daily walks outside and climbing all over the house causing mayhem....its unconceivable to us that within a year or two, we might otherwise have to consider euthanasia as he would be unable to walk.

The vet quoted a very high success rate for the surgery (80% to 90%), with a very intensive recovery period. Our quote is good for 3 months...and could be raised if we don't meet that timeline. Also, if Magnus's knees progress to level 4...the surgery success rate drops to only 50%. The very limited timeline is why we are asking for help.

The goal amount is for the high end of the quote. Anything above the actual surgery fees will go to Magnus's recovery fund and help pay for his physiotherapist.

If we raise more than we need for that, anything else will go to the Farley Foundation which helps those on fixed income with veterinary costs in Canada.
