Magnolia May Spina Bifida Journey

The Spreckels family, Kayla and Erik, found out we were expecting a bundle of joy November 2019. All the appointments were going great, healthy baby, strong heartbeat, movement and growth right on track. At 16 weeks we found out we're going to be blessed with a baby girl, Magnolia May Iris Spreckels, everything continued to look great at that appointment. As the 20 week appointment in Fairhope, AL came we we're excited to see our beautiful daughter once again and confirm gender. Unfortunately the appointment took an unexpected turn. Our OB and ultrasound tech had noticed her head was "lemon" shaped and it was concerning to them but couldn't confirm exactly what was going on. The next day we were referred to a high risk OB at the Strada in Mobile, AL. Both us first time parents very nervous not knowing the news we were about to get at the appointment, they had done an ultrasound. After the ultrasound they brought us into another room and told us our daughter has Spina Bifida. A couple tests we're done to get us started to see if anything else was going on and get us started to see if we qualify for fetal surgery. Strada referred us to Texas Children's Hospital we're we would learn more about Magnolias diagnosis's and our options. A couple weeks passed and we arrived in Houston for 2 days of tests and meeting with many people. Our daughter's confirmed diagnoses  was with Spina Bifida Myelomeningocele, most severe case, which occurs on L4 of her spine. We qualified for the fetal surgery but from all the information received we had decided the best option was postnatal surgery for her. July 13th is our scheduled c-section date, within 24 hours our baby girl will go into surgery to close her back and place a shunt if needed at the time. As parents the last thing anyone would want is for their child to have to go through anything in life like this. We have prayed and continue to pray that god blesses our miss Magnolia with a great outcome. As this all approached the stress and worry builds. Unfortunately this is gonna be hard on us new parents with expenses of living and her medical expenses and needs. Erik will be on unpaid leave for 2 months maybe even longer if needed, we're blessed to have the family we do and help from them but we hate to put it all on them. Any donations for our family and beautiful Magnolia in this time are very greatly appreciated and sent from God. We already have been blessed with so much support and love in this time. God has blessed us in this journey already and we can't wait to start this unfortunate journey when she arrives. Anything helps in this time, we appreciate all the help you may bless our family with. Thank ya'll!
