Donation protected
UPDATE - make sure you read the "Thank You" update from Jo.

Our goal has been met in glorious fashion! It was met, raised, and met again. I've closed the donation link.
Thank you to everyone who shared and donated. This has been a whirlwind 2 days. The original goal of $4,000 for the Envision Glasses was met in 1.5 days, and the extended goal of $1,500 to pay for repairs to the BrailleNote was met in 0.5 days. Thank you to everyone for making this happen!!!

This is a story about Jolene Boshart, and her lifelong love of reading, but for now, we will just call her the Princess, since that’s what her family and friends call her as a joke.   Can you help get this princess her magic glasses so she can perform her day-to-day tasks even more independently than she already does?

Once upon a time, a little princess was born.  Her family soon learned that she was blind, and they made the difficult decision to send her 170 miles away to a residential school to give her the same educational opportunities available to other kids.

One of the first things the little princess loved was being read to, and she always remembered her parents taking the time to read Bible stories and the Golden Books to her, and providing records containing other stories.

Soon the little princess learned to read for herself in braille, and it became a lifelong hobby.  She graduated from high school and went on to college.

As she grew up, she always wanted a home of her own, and a cat of her own.  She got her first wish at age 27, when she got a house, followed closely by her second wish: a cat named Ivan.  He was followed by Nadine, Tess, Piper, and Agnes.  In 2003, the princess moved to her present palace on South Street.

She taught braille and computer at the Nebraska Center for the Blind in Lincoln for 18-1/2 years, then ran her own braille transcribing business at home for the next 25 years.  Since 1981, she has attended First Mennonite Church in Lincoln, and for the past 30 years, has been a member of the Sunrise Toastmasters club in District 24, serving in several offices, including District Governor.

Dream of Magic Glasses
During all this time, the princess held on to her dream of reading the materials that were available to everyone else.  One day, she heard about some Magic Glasses that had been developed which would bring this dream much closer to reality. The glasses are called Envision Glasses. These glasses would help her do such things as read recipes in cookbooks, read cooking instructions and ingredients on boxes and cans, sort mail, read parts of newspapers that are not usually available to blind people, read handwritten items like holiday cards for herself and many other tasks.  They can also help identify objects in a room, recognize colors, read prescription bottles, read digital screens, and give other information.  The glasses are also able to call other selected people, called "allies," over face-time calls, who can then see what the user is seeing.

What are Magic Glasses?
Envision glasses use the power of speech to make everyday life more accessible for any visual impairment.

Scene Description - Get detailed scene descriptions anywhere. So you know what’s around, every step of the way.
Face Recognition - Find your colleagues or friends in an instant, with Face Recognition.
Color Detection - Easily sort laundry.

How You Can Help
Jolene is very excited about the glasses, and that's what this GoFundMe page is all about.  Obviously, this kind of technology is expensive, and that's where you come in! Medicare does not cover this device, and there are no grants available to help out.  If you would like to help with the purchase of the princess's glasses, here's how you can make a contribution.

I'm holding this fundraiser for my cousin Jolene. She has always shown determination, and a drive to do anything she wanted to do.  One of her favorite phrases is “Choose Excellence.”    All funds will go towards the purchase of a new pair of Magic Glasses, Envision Glasses, for her use.
