I am proud and excited to make this announcement as it comes with news of both personal and professional growth. For over two years we've been building something quite unique as not that long ago there were few if any pet care companies primarily focused on feline care and training. Now, two years later, we have discovered there is not only an overwhelming need for this service but a nearly unlimited demand.
Consider that around 200,000 people live on the Upper East Side and while estimates of pet ownership range, a safe bet is that 20% of those people own a cat; that's nearly 40,000 felines, conservatively. By myself I've built a community of nearly 100 of those pet parents and in 2024 Universal Cat Care Co is projected to gross over $100,000 while serving only 0.0025% of the market, as mostly a one woman show.
It's time to grow.
Since announcing myself as transgender last year the world has become quite different and one of the many things I've learned from this new reality is that anything is indeed possible and that the hardest limits I've faced are the ones I put on myself.
As many of you know, my ultimate goal is to open a cat cafe here on the UES which will function as a "feline education / adoption center," which will also offer boarding, grooming, training classes, merchandise, food and more. For a long time I assumed this to be a long-off thing for Future Me to deal with but the feeling that "now is the time" has become overwhelming.
At the beginning of 2024 I set a goal to have a full business plan done by the end of the year. This means it is entirely possible that the Universal Cat Cafe can open in the Summer / Fall 2025!
First though we have to get the Universal Cat Care Co off to the best start possible (while getting me a day or two off every week)!
Our initial investment offer was a huge success, reaching nearly $7,000 out of a $5,000 goal! This enabled us to rapidly begin upgrading the company with a new website, cat sitters, advertising campaigns, a rewards program and very soon we are launching an app-based system to make the UCC experience as wonderful for our Pet Parents as it is for our cat friends!
We want to keep building upon this momentum as we get ready for Summer (or as we call it, Cat Season Part 1) and beyond!
We are asking for donations from our friends and community to help continue making all of these dreams into a reality. With your help we can continue to do amazing things for the cats of nyc, providing peace and comfort to felines and the humans who love them.
This is an exciting time for me, my cat friends and I hope for you as well. Many of you know the physical and mental struggles that have come with the past two years. I've been trying to not only build a business that can sustain me for a long time but to also build a community during a time when I feel we all need as much of that as possible. I don't feel so alone any more and I'm only able to do this because of the love and support of all the spectacular people that have come into my life.
I hope you will continue on this journey with me as we build more and more purrrfectly beautiful things together!!
