Hurricane Dorian and Coronavirus Relief
Donation protected
1. My Name is Katy Mitchell, I own the Magic Bean Coffee Bazaar
2. I've lived here on Ocracoke for 30 years
3. This campaign will help pay rent, utilities, repairs and other expenses for myself, my family and the people and animals I have moved into my Airbnb. I am providing rooms for those displaced free of charge for as long as they need them.
4. How the funds will be spent? This campaign is to raise money to house, feed, clothe, pay utilities, repair vehicles, electrical and water damage for people whose homes and possessions were lost during the Hurricane Dorian flood. I have opened the Magic Bean Coffee Shop's upstairs Airbnb to these people who have lost housing, jobs, property and livelihood due to this disastrous hurricane damage. There is no timeline for the island reopening to visitors. The Island has been receiving so much love and support from friends and family in the form of cleaning supplies, food, and medical supplies, it is just amazing! People who live here have always been able to rely on our tight knit community in times of sickness, destruction or financial worry but this time WE ARE ALL AFFECTED. It is not easy to ask for help. If you are not sure how to help or what to send please donate to this and or any number of campaigns to help the resilient people of Ocracoke regain their footing and rebuild our beautiful island home. #OcracokeStrong
Ocracoke, The Magic Bean and the rest of the world faced a new personal and financial challenge with the Covid-19 Pandemic. Magic Bean Coffee is a year round business, providing year round jobs for the community. We, and many other businesses have been closed in the wake of Dorian for repairs and then immediately following the Natural Disaster - a global economic shutdown and stay at home order kept our doors closed. Now with the opportunity to open we are struggling to purchase supplies, as well as pay our postponed (now due all at once) leases, mortgages and utilities. We also need to be able to pay our staff and The Magic Bean and many of the year round and seasonal businesses on Ocracoke and across the country do not Qualify for Paycheck Protection Loans from the SBA as we were not staffed January - March 2020. If you are able and want to see these businesses succeed please continue to donate to this and any other businesses in need of help. We so love and appreciate you and your constant love and support! Thank you!
