Hi, my name is Maggie. I’m not someone who’s ever been comfortable asking for help. I’ve spent my career showing up for others on their worst days and being a safe place when things fall apart. I never imagined I’d be on the other side of that equation. These past few months have given me a new perspective on how hard it is to be the patient.
In November, while working on shift my body hit it's breaking point with a genetic condition we didn't know I had. After extensive testing, doctors determined that I need brain and spine surgery. I spent 22 days hospitalized at Froedtert before being able to return home, regain my strength and prepare for surgery. Surgery then was scheduled for March 16th with an estimated 4-6 week recovery. The doctors are hopeful for a complete recovery. Unfortunately, being out of work for over three months has created financial challenges. Medical and living expenses have become a heavy burden.
I can't wait to get back to being a Firefighter/Paramedic where I'm able to be the one to make people feel cared for. Until then, I am grateful for an amazing support system that has helped me through the hardest chapter of my life.
I truly appreciate you taking the time to read my story. Any donation, share, meal or message of encouragement helps ease the burden and allows me to rest and focus on healing. Thank you for supporting me during a chapter in my life that is extremely defeating.
