Maggie's House Fire Fund
On the morning of Dec. 5, Maggie awoke to find her kitchen in flames. As she grabbed her two dogs (her son and two roommates were not home at the time) and called the police, her house filled with smoke.
The fire investigation isn't complete yet, but it is most likely a kitchen appliance that started the fire.
Firefighters arrived quickly, however, the fire caused significant damage to her kitchen, entryway, and living room. Smoke filled most of the upstairs of the house, while water from the firefighting efforts caused water damage to the basement.
We're extremely grateful that everyone (including pets!) got out safely, however, the fire will put a large financial burdeon on Maggie and her four-year-old son, Orin.
Right now, the biggest need is her insurance deductible ($1,500). Additionally, Maggie needs to take time off work to work sort through the complicated process of an insurance claim, getting her posessions out of the house, and finding a temporary place for her, Orin, and their three pets.
While the house will be salvaged, it will need significant repairs. It is currently unknown how long it will be before Maggie can move back in. Insurance adjustors have said it could be weeks or months.
If you've had the chance to meet Maggie, you know she's the most generous, kind, and warm person you'll ever meet. Her home has always been open to everyone and anyone. We're hoping you can give her a hand-up.
Any donation, big or small, helps.
