Maggie’s Hip Replacements
Donation protected
Hi my name is Ana.
My long term partner and I adopted a 9 month old puppy named Maggie from a shelter at the end of August 2023. When we saw Maggie, we knew she was the perfect match for our family! Since we’ve had her, we learned that she is a huge cuddle bug! She is so curious, loves to play with her sister Luna and her other furry dog friends.
Once we took Maggie home, we noticed her hind legs seemed a little weaker than they should be for a puppy. She always asked for help to jump on the bed, never jumped into the car without help and even had a harder time going up and down the stairs. Maggie started limping when we went camping with her. And afterwards, when I gave her a bath her back legs gave out. That night, she was not able to go down the stairs without her legs collapsing. With all of these observations and information, I decided to take Maggie to the vet the next day just to make sure she was okay.
Unfortunately, we found out that Maggie has hip dysplasia with clear signs of arthritis. The vet showed me her x-rays and said her hips look “really bad”. She said that Maggie’s right hip is worse than her left hip but they are both in bad shape. We got her started on pain/anti inflammatory medicine and fish oil right away. Then the vet sent her X-rays to the orthopedic surgeon for his opinion on how to proceed. They are recommending Total Hip Replacements in both hips.
Each hip replacement will cost between $8,000.00-10,000.00. We plan to start with the right hip since it is in worse shape and are currently keeping her on pain/anti-inflammatory medicine to keep her comfortable. With no improvement she is still limping which indicates the need for surgery.
It breaks our hearts that she is in discomfort and pain. We want her to be able to run around with friends, not struggle to get on the bed or into the car. We want to include her on our long walks/hikes. But most importantly, we really want to make sure that she does not limp after she gets up from laying down or tumble down the stairs or fall when going up the stairs or fall over when she is trying to run after her sister and friends. She is just a puppy who has a full life ahead of her and we want her to be pain free. Sadly, the vet said this is something that will only get worse over time.
We are looking to raise whatever we can to go towards Maggie’s hip replacement surgery. Whether you can donate a $1 or $5 or more, any assistance will help and we are grateful.
Thank you so much for taking the time to look at Maggie’s story.
Normal hip X-rays for dog:
Maggie’s X Rays (as you can see her hip bones are abnormally placed)
Maggie is looking so cute asking for help to get on the bed but now we know why :-(
Maggie and her sister Luna snuggling - they can’t imagine life without each other!

Thank you again for considering!
