Maggie's Dilated Cardiomyopathy Care

If you've found this GoFundMe you probably already follow Maggiepotamus. She's estimated to be 10/11 years old and this week got a surprise diagnosis that we were not prepared for. 4 months ago Maggie had a spinal stroke and has been seeing an orthopedic specialist since then. During an ortho checkup 2 weeks ago, the vet heard a light heart murmur. We thought it was nothing, but opted for a heart ultrasound because she needed to have anesthesia for her spine CT scan.

The day of her CT scan, she arrived early for the heart ultrasound and the vet said words that nothing could have prepared me for. They found that her left ventricle is enlarged with blood leaking through the mitral valve, thinning of the muscle wall, and her blood is pumping well below the numbers we should normally see. They said she has Dilated Cardiomyopathy and the typical prognosis is 3-6 months from finding. But, other than the quiet murmur, I haven't seen any clinical symptoms which is hopeful! With proper treatments, supplements, diet changes, and regular care she could stay with me for years more.

I had hoped I wouldn't need to open a GoFundMe, but sadly the costs keep going up and Instagram has permanently demonetized us so we just lost about 80% of our income source.
