Maggie & Family Living/Medical Fund

Hi everyone, this is Maggie. Maggie just turned 12 this last December and for all 12 years of her life she has been in and out of hospitals for her transplanted kidney. She's battled through multiple occasions of transplant rejection (acute and chronic antibody mediated rejection) and has been on dialysis for most of her life as well. Currently her dialysis is not working and they are having to switch to hemodialysis, she just had surgery on Tuesday (April 11th) and she is likely to have 2 additional surgeries within the next week. They have been working towards getting her stable enough to do home dialysis but things have not worked out the way the doctors thought they would and they are continually going back to the drawing board for her.

Very often she's in quite a bit of pain and has to live out of the hospital for weeks at a time. When the pain isn't so severe she keeps a smile on her face and loves playing games with her mom or in the playroom at the hospital while her father is working as a semi driver. She also has 2 brothers and an adopted baby sister. Oh, and she just had her hair dyed blue to make it more fun :)

I have the pleasure of working at the same company as her mother over the past 3 years, during which time, Susan has held two jobs while taking her daughter to and from Dallas for surgeries and appointments. She even insisted on working while she was on crutches for several weeks. It's an inspiration to see Maggie, Susan and her family stay positive and working hard despite the many years of trials. Not once have they asked for a handout or given up. That's why I was compelled to start this for them, I truly feel this family deserves this help more than anyone else I know. As of right now, they're unaware that I've set this up for them.

I have no idea the extent of their medical bills, but I imagine it's well out of reach to wipe that away. What I do know is that with the recent bumps they have hit in Maggie's recovery, Susan has not been able to work more than 2 or 3 days in the last month and a half. We have been covering for her as much as she needs, but that doesn't pay the bills. With more surgeries ahead and Maggie's transplanted kidney failing within the next 6 months (according to the doctors), they have a huge uphill battle ahead of them and the family is in need of financial help. Like I said, I have no idea what their medical bills are and that's probably too lofty of a goal. What I would like us to be able to do, is give this family some peace of mind about paying their utilities, rent and keeping food on the table for the other kids while allowing Susan to stay there at the hospital with Maggie through all of this.. And maybe some new games for Maggie since she'll be in the hospital quite a bit for the forseeable future.

If we can raise enough to keep them afloat AND put a dent in their medical bills too, even better!

Whatever amount we can raise will help and I know they will be forever grateful for everyone generosity.
