Meet Maria Fernanda, or as friends and family like to call her, Mafe. Mafe is facing a recurrence of cancer after going through a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation about 6 years ago. Mafe thought she had put it all behind her, but cancer wanted a rematch with such an unbelievable opponent and decided to come back with stage 3 breast cancer in the same area she had in her previous treatment. A single mother of 4, and working towards raising her youngest son , Daniel, age 15 and her beloved rescue dog Luna who she found tied to a tree in a forest and abandoned for dead while going through chemotherapy the first time around, Mafe is facing the greatest fight of her life for the 2nd time and is in need of some support in order to help her pay for her insurance premiums, deductibles and other living expenses while she battles this horrible decease.
 
Mafe’s personality is electrifying, she is very funny, energetic, proactive, determined, religious and has an immense heart. All the traits she delivers on a daily basis at her job as a Social Worker working with High School and Middle School kids with behavioural problems  in Jacksonville, Florida.
 
Upon arriving to the USA about 10 years ago, she decided this was her 2nd chance at fulfilling her life dreams. Despite many different opinions and in addition to having a job, she decided to enroll in school and pursue her bachelor’s degree, in Social Worker  which she proudly completed about 2 years ago. She is currently working on her Master’s degree and her goal is to continue to teach, as she truly loves trying to help people to better themselves.
 
Trying to describe Mafe in a few lines is very difficult, as there are too many anecdotes to tell and when writing one, another better one comes to mind. Your contribution will help Mafe better prepare to beat cancer in this 2nd and hopefully last round in a tremendous fight to live.
