Mae's M.S. fight
Donation protected
In 2010 Mae was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, a disease of the brain and spinal cord. Mae has lived many years with this diagnosis and has taken it (like she does most things) in stride. Unfortunately, during the height of COVID, Mae saw a large increase in her symptoms, including a decrease in much of her motor function, limiting her ability to walk and move freely.
Thankfully, Mae has recently discovered she is eligible for a stem cell infusion, which will greatly slow the progression of the disease and hopefully allow her a longer and much more comfortable life! The cost of the stem cell treatment is upwards of $20,000. We are hoping to raise funds to support her in any way we can to cover the cost of this treatment.
To know Mae Bennett is to love her. She is the definition of a social worker in every sense of the word. She has dedicated 20 years of her life to working with survivors of domestic violence and trauma. During the day, she manages a small but mighty team of domestic violence advocates. In the evenings she runs a private practice where she does EMDR to help folks that have experienced trauma. In addition to that, she has been a professor and director of field placement education at Ursuline College, served on multiple advisory boards, and almost never turns down an opportunity to consult with other social workers and community members. She does all of this with the most humility and joy- she truly lights up every room she is in with her infectious warmth.
Mae likes to say that her service of others isn't entirely un-selfish. She will tell you she is "building her treasures in heaven." As those that have the privilege to know her, we would like it to be a very long time before she gets there. Please consider donating to help her get this important treatment.
