Help Maelee’s Fight Against Thyroid Cancer
Donation protected
Hey Everyone!
I’m truly appreciative of you taking time to read our journey. My family and I was blindsided a few months ago. My daughter Maelee was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.
Back in December 2023 she got a cold and developed a little lump on her neck. I thought her glands must be swollen and would heal up on its own. But it didn’t.
We took her in to the family doctor in March. Everything went kind of fast after that.
She has already had bloodwork, MRI scan, biopsy and three ultrasounds; One of them took forty-five minutes.
The Children’s hospital is three hours away from home. The surgery is early in the morning at the end May, and will last about three-five hours. After the procedure she will have a drainage tube placed inside her neck for a few days. She will have to be on thyroid medication and calcium, and of course there are side effects to not having a thyroid “Praying those are minimal”. She will be in the hospital for five days. She will also have iodine treatment. Ben will be off work so he can take care of our other children and also be there for Maelee.
We have been put in a hard place financially. We have a son with type one diabetes, we are living with My sister and her family, and in the process of saving up for a house.
Any money donated will be used for doctor bills, food, gas and lodging expenses.
Any amount you’re willing to give is so greatly appreciated! If you aren’t able to give at this time, a share with your friends and family would mean the world to us as well.
Update on Maelee's Cancer Treatment:
· 32 lymph nodes were removed, and 16 of them were cancerous.
· The thyroid cancer tumor measured 4.5 centimeters in length.
Next Steps:
· Starting July 1st, we'll be following a low-iodine diet for three weeks.
· For two weeks, we'll be staying in a nearby housing facility next to the children's hospital, where Maelee will receive daily infusions and blood draws.
· On the third week, she'll receive an iodine pill with radiation, aiming to target and destroy cancer cells.
· during the treatment, Maelee will be isolated for a week, with a separate living space, and we'll need to maintain a distance of six feet from her.
The medical team has informed us that, based on their experience with similar cases to Maelee's, they anticipate finding additional cancer cells during her treatment.
We kindly request your continued prayers and support throughout July as Maelee navigates this challenging journey.
Unfortunately, Maelee's 15th birthday celebration will be postponed for a month. Thank you for your love and support.
