Mae Vang Silivan's Memorial Fund

Dearest Friends and Family,

Today we lost a wonderful, beautiful, and kind soul from our world. A loving member and fierce matriarch of the Silivan family, our dearest mother, Vang Silivan, passed in peace at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, NY.

Mae Silivan was admitted to the Emergency Room around mid-July due to a severe cough which was later diagnosed as the effects from mass fluid buildup in her chest due to an initial liver failure. This later led to other organ failures which prompted the remainder of her stay in the hospital’s ICU area. She was intubated for nearly 24 hours before her body passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at 2:30 am.

Like the life she led, she fought ambitiously, tenaciously, and rambunctiously till the very end, and we will always remember her passionate and vibrant spirit. Not only was she a breast cancer survivor but she was also an inspirational support to those with similar cancer diagnoses. Mae Silivan was the most kind and loving individual that anyone who had the privilege to know her would tell you - what an amazing woman she was! Being always the first volunteering hand in any community gathering, she was especially devoted to assisting religious Buddhist rites for an individual's passing. She was a valuable and contributing member of the Wat Lao Samakhitham in upstate New York. She had a passion for community service and upholding traditional Laotian values. She contributed her expertise as a skilled seamstress and had a wonderful artistic eye towards classic Laotian fashion and apparel.

While she was strong willed and determined, her heart melted when it came to her grandchildren and was fiercely devoted to her family. Some of those closest to her have described her as “woman of all trades”, one who would undertake, innovate, and perfect any new challenges head on, and “was always so kind and going out of her way to help people.” Many of us are greatly saddened by the loss of a bright and shining star. And even with her passing, her light will forever shine and never diminish.

This memorial fund was created in honor of Mae Vang Silivan, so that we may continue to honor her life and legacy. Overall, please do not feel obligated to contribute monetary funds during this difficult and unprecedented time. But to those who will not be able to attend her last rites, please feel free to use this platform as an option to gift your support to the family.

To those that would like to attend her Blessings of Soul rituals, they will take place on Aug 13th  through Sat Aug 15th, from 10 am - 12 pm at Wat Lao Samakhitham, 2040 Rt 11, Castle Creek, NY 13744. Due to COVID-19 social distancing guidelines, in place of the traditional home visit, we are implementing a no contact drop-off at her home where you will be greeted by her dear spouse, Pa Kurt (Ky) Silivan.

Our family would like to thank you deeply for all your generous prayers, condolences, and thoughtful support during our time of mourning.

With warm regards,

The Silivan Family
