I’ve spent the past month working for Oxford University on a child mental health research project in the rural villages of Northern Thailand, splitting my time between Bangkok and Chiang Rai, and will continue to do so for the next few months. We have collected data in the field from thousands of children across Northern Thailand that we are now analyzing to create a report aimed at securing funding for supporting these children from the government of Thailand, the World Bank, and other organizations.
Our last school visit for data collection was at the Mae Sai School for the Blind, where these photos were taken. Being there was an immense privilege. I was deeply moved by the resilience and fortitude of these young people.
It’s such a strange time in the world, and often it feels like the problems within our own bubbles are the most pressing. But in reality, the issues beyond our immediate surroundings are often where our efforts can have the greatest impact. In addition to the challenges that the Golden Triangle border schools are facing that lead to the formation of this research project, the work the School for the Blind is doing is particularly challenging, especially to be so drastically underfunded. If you can, please consider taking a few minutes to learn more about the Mae Sai School for the Blind, and if so compelled, look into supporting this extraordinary community that is working so hard to make the world a better place. ❤️
