Mae Aherne's Celebration of Life

Donation protected

Baker “Mae” had a devastating accident, which lead to her passing on September 29, 2021. Those touched by her light, while heartbroken, feel blessed to have spent so many years with Missy Mae.

Mae grew up and lived in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina from ages 5-19. She attended Mount Pleasant Academy, Moultrie Middle School and Wando High School. She was a big part of the community, always wanting to run errands and be out and about. Mae particularly loved Publix, Harris Teeter, Target, Jimmy Johns, Subway and CVS.

She loved going on vacation with her family and looked forward to traveling to see her extended family in Palm Beach, Florida, Raleigh, North Carolina, and Annapolis, Maryland.  She would talk about these trips and her family all year long.

She loved life.  Anyone that met Mae could tell she was a special girl.   Her smile would light up room, her laugh was contagious, and her uninhibited dance moves could entertain a party all night.

Mae showed those around her, the importance of the simple things in life.

The way she would greet someone, with a hug and a big smile, as if they had been away for a year, even though it may have been just a few minutes, just made people feel good.

A Celebration of Mae’s life will take place on Thursday October 14th, 2021.  A service will be held at St. Andrews Church in Mt. Pleasant at 5:30 pm, followed by a reception at Alhambra Hall.

The Aherne family would like to include all those whose lives Mae has touched in the celebration of her life. From the cashiers and baggers at Publix and Target to those that knew her from many trips to CVS, her teachers and caregivers, the bus drivers and therapists, the village that it took to raise and care for Mae, for which her family is blessed and forever thankful.

Funds raised through GoFundMe will help defray costs for the event.  All surplus funds will be donated, in honor of Baker Mae Aherne, to Healing Farms and Village Vision.  You may read their mission statement here .

Mae impacted people that her family did not even know. Your donations will go to an organization committed to an underserved population where Mae's light shined bright and where she was so very loved.  You will help those just like Mae.

The purity of her spirit and authenticity she exuded, made you want to be a better person.  She will be missed.
