Mady Violet
Hello,
My name is Sean Grinch from Shadyside, Ohio. I am the President of the Tiger 4-Man in Shadyside, Ohio. Each year, a group of past Ohio Valley Athletes gather in Shadyside to compete in what has become the annual Shadyside Tiger 4-Man. Teams of four are drafted and then compete against one another in a series of events including a golf scramble, volleyball tournament, relay race, along with several other events throughout the day.
The Tiger 4-Man has evolved into a powerful fundraising platform geared toward helping members of the local community in need. Over the past several years, the Tiger 4-Man has raised well over $60,000, which has been donated to young people faced with various difficult situations such as breast cancer, pneumonia, Cystic Fibrosis, car accidents, pediatric cancer, etc.
This year the Tiger 4-Man will be raising money for Mady Violet from Shadyside, Ohio. Mady is a fifteen year old sophomore who attends Shadyside High School. Mady resides in Shadyside with her mother Bridget, and her little sister Audri. She is a member of the Lady Tigers volleyball and softball team. Mady was diagnosed with a very rare cancer called MALT Lymphoma (mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue) on April 4, 2018 at the age of thirteen. Mady underwent surgery to have the lymphoma removed, however when the results came back, Mady’s family found out that her margins were not clear. At the time her doctors at the Cleveland Clinic believed that the risk of treatment outweighed the benefits. Mady’s condition was monitored by doctors with repeated scans.
In June of 2019, Mady noticed another spot on the other side of her face. Mady and her family kept an eye on it for six weeks, but it never went away. In August of 2019, Mady had another biopsy completed and it came back as abnormal cells. On March 20, 2020, Mady had another biopsy performed, and it confirmed that the lymphoma was active and spread. The cancer and tumor board met to discuss proper treatment. This type of cancer is so rare, and very uncommon in children. On June 8th, Mady started receiving radiation treatments at the Cleveland Clinic. Mady will have 20 radiation treatments that will take place Monday thru Friday for four weeks straight. During this time, Mady and her family will be staying in Cleveland during the week and coming home on the weekends.
The 4-Man Council was made aware of Mady and her family’s situation through some friends who participate in Tiger 4-Man on an annual basis. I myself am not related to the Violet family, but have got to know Mady during school this year at Shadyside High School. It is the 4-Man’s pleasure to have the opportunity to aid Mady and her family. As always of course, 100% of any and all donations made will go directly towards Mady and her family as they continue to fight this battle and pay for the many medical expenses that have accrued over the past months. The fundraiser will end Friday July 31, 2020, one week after our event. A check will be presented to Mady's family following the fundraiser. Please do your part, spread the word, and donate today.
Thank You,
