Quite a few people have asked me if they could make donations to my hometown to relieve the community and residents of damage costs caused by a vicious derecho, a fast-moving, violent thunderstorm complex, that produced extremely damaging straight-line winds on Monday August 10, 2020.
The City of Madrid and surrounding areas sustained severe damage to roadways and sidewalks, trees and powerlines, public and private property (including homes, outbuildings, vehicles, recreational equipment, city facilities and parks, etc.), disruption of utility service, disruption of communications systems and endangerment of health and safety of the citizens of Madrid within the disaster area.
The Madrid Mayor Thomas W. Brown declared a state of emergency authorized under Iowa State Statute. Any amount donated will help. In addition an account has been established at City State Bank in Madrid, Iowa as the Madrid Iowa Disaster Recovery Fund. The address to the bank is 105 E 2nd Street, Madrid, IA 50156. If you are not able to donate please consider volunteering around town or share this post. Thank you so much. Go tigers!
