Raising a family - jobless and alone - single mothers are struggling now more than ever.  Before the COVID crisis, Madres Solteras was working with just over 300 single mothers through educational projects and social-emotional support.  Now, during the pandemic, over 1,000 single mothers are searching for temporary aid to feed their families and to restart their lives after limited opportunities were taken by the pandemic.  

In addition to temporary relief during COVID, Madres Solteras seeks to empower women through education to be able to lead their own families.  One of its projects is to provide women with business and life skills.  Mother's participate in educational workshops, emotional healing sessions, or gain experience learning a trade. 
  
There has recently been a dramatic rise in poverty and unemployment due to the economic crisis caused by the pandemic.  While in the USA, with vaccinations on the rise, things may seem to be improving, on the world stage, in places like Latin America, the most severe effects on the pandemic are only beginning.  

A recent project we have added are biweekly home visits.  We connect with three different mothers and visit their homes and children.  We leave a week's supply of food and collect their stories to identify each family's specific need in order to better connect them to social services and when possible, make connections for them to start working again.  More importantly, we give the opportunity for each mother to process their grief and stress, and connect them with a social working.
