Chris has advanced multiple sclerosis (“MS”) that he’s been battling for more than 16 years. For most of those years, as the MS progressed, he refused to use a wheelchair, explaining that, once you begin to use one, you lose your ability to walk completely. For the past year, Chris has been in a specialized nursing facility while he’s trying to get back to his old self.
He participates in one kind of therapy at his living facility, but he also sees an outside provider for a second type on a daily basis. It’s this second type that’s designed to help get him back on his feet, but he’s having trouble figuring out the resources to get this done. I’ll let Chris explain in his own words:
“I’ve pretty much run out of the crowdfunding money. It is the main reason I got this far, and I'm extremely grateful it got me through 11 months of incredibly difficult battles. I still have a little ways to go yet, so I wanted to try appealing to my family and friends to help out to get me to the finish line here so I can get back home and to work, and continue my recovery while finally being able to support myself again.”
“This has all been a pretty harrowing learning experience. The system is broken in some fundamental ways, and it's extremely tricky and time consuming to navigate all the obstacles to get adequate help for recovery. With a disability with physical limitations, even more so. So I definitely appreciate your and everyone else's help. Because without it I would have never gotten this far, and I would have been in this nursing home indefinitely--probably for good. Thank you again for everything and have a good day.”
