Madison Duncan is a Senior at Columbia Adventist Academy. She is 18 years old. On the night of January 25, 2021 while she was enjoying conversation with her mother, step-father, and grandmother, Madison experienced a seizure. She was transported by ambulance to the ER where subsequent CT scan and MRI determined she has a tumor and cyst in the left front portion of her brain. Consultation with the neurosurgeon provided the following information. The tumor is currently believed to be benign, but this won’t be confirmed until the completion of a pathology report. This type of tumor, while rare, most often occurs in children and is assumed to have been developing for several years. The slow growth allowed her brain to adapt to its presence and she therefore did not present any symptoms until the tumor and surrounding cyst caused enough pressure on her brain to cause the seizure. The prognosis is good, but Madison must undergo surgery on Monday, February 8th 2021 to remove the tumor from her brain. If left unchecked the seizures will continue and leave her disabled, eventually taking her life. The family does have insurance coverage, but there will still be several thousand dollars of out of pocket expenses and lost wages as they coordinate treatment and provide care. Any financial contributions to the family are greatly appreciated, but prayer is desired above all else.
