After 2 years in a battle with a terminal brain cancer, Dan Rangel was taken from us way too soon If you knew Dan, you loved Dan. He was the guy who brought you your favorite pastry just to show that he was thinking of you. If you were down, Dan was there to cheer you up. Throughout his own personal struggles, Dan never showed the strains that he was dealing with and was always positive and found a way to focus on how he could help you.
As a friend and co-worker, Dan had a huge influence on my life and always inspired me to be a better person. Whenever I had a challenge or ethical dilemma, I only had to think, "What would Dan do?" to know what the right answer was. During the 13 years that Dan and I were co-workers at Stryker, I never worked with anyone more loyal and proud of the company he worked for and supportive of his peers. You didn't just work with Dan, you were his friend. Sitting next to Dan, I saw the wide array of folks who dropped by on a daily basis to say hi or check in. I was always amazed to see who Dan knew and what topics that they bonded over (fishing, biking, running, 80's music, movies, family stories, Dallas sports, you name it). When Dan and I went to the local Starbucks, not only all of the baristas knew him but he would stop by and check in with other customers who he had developed a relationship with. It was truly inspiring to see.
Dan's #1 passion was his family, his beautiful wife, Laura and his amazingly talented daughters, Madison and Ella. I have never had a conversation with Dan where he did not bring up his family with pride. He always had a story about Madison's dance competitions or going fishing with Ella. When he spoke of his relationship with his wife, I wanted to be a better husband. Dan's biggest legacy in life will be the wonderful young women that he has helped raise with Laura.
This campaign is to help collect money to go towards the future education of Madison and Ella, to allow them to follow their dreams as Dan always wanted them to. If there is one thing that you can do to remember Dan, helping ensure his daughters have the future that they deserve would be a great way to honor an incredible man.
