Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajioon.
To Allāh (SWT) we belong and to Him we shall return!
The eyes are shedding tears and the heart is grieved, and we will not say except what pleases our Lord.
On the 7.03.2021, we lost our beacon of light. My dear grandmother, Madina Osman, returned to her Lord in Mogadishu after a short period of illness. They say you only understand the brightness of a light once it's been dimmed and no truer words describe my grandmother better.
At her funeral, as we grieved we found many other unfamiliar faces grieving alongside us, The loss of Madina Osman was clearly not ours alone, it was the loss of many. The more I spoke to these people, the more I realised how incredible this woman actually was. How could a single elderly woman have such an impact on so many people?
"I was a single mother and she played a huge part in raising my children"
"She always checked up on me & supported me when I had no one, who will aid me...who will remember me now?"
"Even during her old age, she regularly observed voluntary fasts, prayed Qiyaam'ul'Layl and reminded others of Allāh"
"I have never heard her speaking ill of anyone or backbiting"
She was a woman known throughout her life for her kind heart & charitable nature. Nothing remained in her possession for long. From clothes to gold, anything that entered her hand would be distributed to those less fortunate.
She lived a humble life despite having the means to live lavishly. She preferred staying behind amongst her people to living in the comfort & safety of the west alongside her children. She chose to be the beacon of light for the forgotten when most people fled.
My grandmother leaves behind no lands or gold but a legacy to aspire to. A legacy which she reiterated throughout her life ;
"...And what is the worldly life except the enjoyment of delusion." [57.20]
We hope to continue her legacy by starting this Sadaqa Jaariya on her behalf. We pray that even after her death, She continues being the beacon of hope she was during her lifetime. May Allāh accept it from her and us.
May Allah grant ayeeyo Madina Osman Jannat-ul-firdous, make her steadfast in the questioning of the grave and make her grave spacious for her.
O Allah, forgive her and elevate her station among those who are guided. Send her along the path of those who came before, and forgive us and her, O Lord of the worlds. Enlarge her grave and shed light upon it.
O Allah, forgive her and have mercy on her and give her strength and pardon her. Be generous to her and wash her with water, snow and hail. Cleanse her of her transgressions as white cloth is cleansed of stains. Give her an abode better than her home, and a family better than her family. Admit her into Paradise and protect her from the punishment of the grave [and from the punishment of Hell-fire]
May Allāh grant all the contributors to this fund and their families khair in both Dunya and Akhira.
In the words of ayeeyo, "May you be granted Naciim (abundant blessings) in this world & Jannah in the hereafter"
May we meet again in Jannah ayeeyo macaan xx
