Hey everyone, I wanted to start by sharing a little bit of Madilyn's backstory before I write about her illnesses.
Madilyn was born on 9/9/21, just about 7 weeks premature and had a 36 day stay in the NICU before she was able to come home with us. Not even two weeks later, our son contracted RSV from daycare and it spread across our family like wildfire. A few days later, we noticed Madilyn was cold, she was unable to keep her temperature up with a slight cough. Next thing we know, she's admitted to Elliot hospital and rushed in an ambulance to the Pediatric ICU at Dartmouth Hitchcock in Lebanon.
Since then Madilyn has been on intubation, which is a breathing tube that helps her breathe as she is unable to on her own. She was diagnosed with Pneumonia from the RSV and put on antibiotics. She had a blood transfusion to help the oxygen levels in her blood and to help her fight off the infection as well. Her IV lines kept failing so they attempted a Picc line which was unsuccessful. She now has a main line in her chest directly to her heart for medications and labs. We are at two weeks in the PICU now and Madilyn is still unable to keep her temperature up despite being treated for her infections. As of today they are doing a scan on her brain to make sure she isn't seizing, and spinal fluid labs to make sure she doesn't have Meningitis.
Our little girl has been home less than two weeks since she was born, and yesterday, 11/9, she turned 2 months old. There is still no estimated date on when Madilyn can come home, she has a long road ahead of her. Miranda (mama) has been by Madilyn's side this entire time as she knows our daughter needs her close. I have been on FMLA (unpaid medical leave) through my work to take care of our three year old son as he was terribly sick with RSV.
What I'm hoping for is some support during these times. Miranda's maternity leave is the only income we have right now as my FMLA is unpaid and it just isn't enough. We are struggling to balance food, gas for travel costs, and bills at home. Anything and everything is appreciated more than I could possibly express.
Thank you for taking your time to read this, lets bring Maddie home <3
