My name is Kendall, and I'm helping raise money for my younger brother and his beautiful wife while they care for their daughter who is currently 2 months old and in the hospital. I ordained Casey and Kelcie's wedding in October of 2021, and both their families were overjoyed when we found out they were pregnant. Their pregnancy has had many highs and lows. Starting out, the day before Kelcie's baby shower she was placed under close supervision for two months at a hospital in San Francisco where she and Casey had nothing but quality time as they did everything they could to keep their girls safely growing. Kelcie is very active in her gym, so bed rest was a huge challenge for her...not so hard for Casey LOL. Their families knew that the babies could come at any time, and we kept faith that they were in the best care and emotionally supported them from afar.
We held our breath for the 30-week milestone. Once they hit it, they were given the okay to move to Santa Rosa to have the babies closer to home (Lakeport, Ca). They stayed in a hotel close to the hospital.
On December 18th, 2022 Kelcie gave birth to twin girls, Brooklynn and Madilynn via emergency C-section. They were immediately placed in the NICU; Brooklynn was 3lb 7 oz and Madilynn 3lb and 2 oz both were 1' 3''.
The families were excited to see pictures of the girls for the first time, but we all knew it was going to be a long road ahead. With the babies covered in tubes and closely watched by the incredible nurses, these two little girls felt immense love.
They are fighters! The families got daily updates from Kelcie and Casey from the NICU sharing how Madi loves holding Casey's fingers and Brooke was being wild, flexing and pulling out her feeding tube.
Day by Day... breathing masks were removed...and then put back on... and then removed again. A little bit better, a little bit worse. Then they got skin-on-skin contact with Casey and Kelcie, and snuggle pics were the best.
I won't speak for the whole family, so I'll speak for myself. I felt helpless to help them. They never asked for anything. They lived in hospital housing and spent every moment they could loving their little girls. No one was able to see the girls except for the two grandmas when they would drive over an hour to be with them. I watched my brother and his wife navigate this HARD season of life with grace, humility, love, and compassion.
After 42 days in the NICU, and 108 days since they left home, Casey and Kelcie got to return home with their two little miracles. Unfortunately, it was too good to be true.
Five days later after a scare where Madi stopped breathing, they found themselves back in the NICU in Santa Rosa. Casey stayed with Brooke in hospital housing and Kelcie stayed with Madi. They were apart as a couple for the first time. They switched back and forth making sure both babies had everything they needed. Madi underwent treatment for 10 days and was released to go home knowing further testing would be needed.
Again, less than a week after being home, Madi had another episode and back they drove over an hour to Santa Rosa. After two days in Santa Rosa Madi was airlifted by herself at just over two months old to San Francisco for expert care at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital.
Exhausted, Casey, Kelcie, and Brooke will not leave Madi to fight on her own. This is where Madi needs to be for an undetermined amount of time and this time, hospital housing is not available to them.
They are looking at spending $200-$300 per night for a hotel + Food + Gas + Parking to stay close to Madi during her fight. They have also accrued over 18K in medical bills. Casey and Kelcie are people who help others, but would never ask for it themselves. NOW THEY NEED HELP.
I'm fundraising to keep Madi with her mommy, daddy, and twin sister during her time in the hospital. All additional funds will be applied toward medical bills. They are 2.5 hours away from their home and have been home less than two weeks since their rollercoaster of an experience started about 4 months ago. They are an incredible, loving couple who have sacrificed so much for their daughters.
Thank you for your generosity. If you’d like to provide them with virtual gift cards or Venmo donations, please contact me and I’ll help make that happen.
First time going home after 108 away.
