Help Madison Reclaim Her Life After Cancer!

Donation protected
I met Madison our freshman year of college at the University of Rhode Island in 2016. We were roommates and instantly became best friends. Madison has changed my life for the better in so many amazing ways. The absolute least I can do is spread her story and help get her back on her feet so she can continue to change others lives!

………………

As many of you may already know, the funniest, kindest, and most caring soul, Madison Prasol, received a diagnosis of stage 2b invasive ductal carcinoma; breast cancer. It traveled to her lymph nodes, requiring intense chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, radiation, and hormone blocking pills for 5 to 10 years. Her final reconstructive surgery will take place in the spring of 2024.

Madi was 24 at the time of her diagnosis, working as a medical assistant and health educator, this all came to a screeching halt with the news of the malignant tumor. While the diagnosis and treatment are devastating, it’s all the little things adding up. The follow-up visits, genetic testing, blood draws, port installation, minor surgeries, major surgeries, trips to the pharmacy and hospitals, treatment centers, body scans, special diets, the inability to work, the medical equipment, home infusions, non-existent immune system, therapy, second opinions, co-pays and travel that drain you emotionally and financially. All this is in addition to learning to advocate for your current and future health with unsympathetic insurance companies and rigid healthcare systems while feeling unbearably ill. Cancer is an exhausting full-time job. She was unable to work for nearly a year. Although her health insurance is good, with all of the additional expenses, it is a heavy financial burden to carry.

She has endured excruciating physical side effects from the chemotherapy and connected treatments. Bone pain, jaw pain, mouth sores, vision changes, digestive issues, appetite loss, brain fog, and exhaustion were constant during the months of treatment she underwent with little complaint. Remaining the amazing human she has always been throughout this terrible journey, she continues to inspire us all with her resilience and determination.

Although she is most of the way through treatment and eager to return to work, helping others at the non-profit she works at, it's not easy to get back on track. Before the diagnosis, she was well on her way to moving out, buying her first car, and starting life on her own as most young adults do at her age. However, her savings have been depleted, the path disrupted. With grit and determination, she is trying her best to rebuild, but no one should have to shoulder cancer alone.

We set the goal at $15,000, and I know you all will work your magic and help Madison recover from this life-altering journey with the support and resources she needs to continue this battle. Whatever you can do will help! Your words of encouragement and support mean the world.

Thank you for being a part of Madison's journey. Your kindness and generosity are deeply appreciated.
