Madelyn B. Ducre "MD" Legacy Fund

Madelyn Brenda Ducre, affectionately known as "MD," passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2020, after a heroic battle against mantle cell non-Hodgkins lymphoma, a type of blood cancer. I created this gofundme page in her honor.

My mother was born in Bonfouca, Louisiana on May 26, 1943. She moved to Evanston, IL in 1962. After moving to Evanston, she worked and served diligently in the community helping to bring positive changes to the head start program, to District 65 and District 202 school systems, City of Evanston and Evanston Police Department. She also fought for many different civil rights issues and solutions to problems.

Madelyn received a double bachelor's degree in criminal justice and sociology in 1999. She went on to volunteer at the Cook County juvenile center. She fought hard for justice, fairness and equity for many Evanston residents. She would often be seen at the courthouse observing hearings and lending her support for the local youth and citizens.

Madelyn's house was open to all and filled with love, warmth, wisdom, truth and a dose of direct advice, whether you wanted it or not. She always made time for everyone and provided a supportive and fighting hand with issues in the community. She worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for her children and grandchildren. She would proudly boast about all of her family. She will be greatly missed and adored by all who truly knew her.

My mother is survived by six children, including her grandson, Donald J. Gibbs, III, whom she adopted after the death of his father and her first born son Donald Jeffrey Gibbs, Jr. in 2005.  Donald, III, is an incoming senior at ETHS. He is an honor roll student and Evanston Scholar with a 4.2 GPA. Donald works hard to maintain his stellar academics while working at a part-time job. Donald was previously a student athlete and a volunteer tutor for children at Fleetwood Jourdain Community Center. Donald's goal is to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and major in Engineering.

The funds will be used to help pay for Madelyn's funeral expenses, as well as help pay for Donald's future college expenses. To further Madelyn's quest for equity and justice, we plan to continue her legacy and support all people in Evanston, because she wholeheartedly believed that commUNITY is alive!
