Madeline’s Hairloss Journey
Thank you for checking out this campaign! The goal of this campaign is to provide Madeline with a wig made of human hair! As many of you know, Mad is dealing with Alopecia: hair loss with no specific cause. While Mad is aware that her beauty does not come from her outward appearance, it’s definitely a confidence booster! Look good, feel good, right? What ever “look good” feels like to her, is what I want her to have! I’ve told her many times she could be bald and still be beautiful, she can also have a human hair wig and rock that too! Here is a little bit of life I asked her to share with us!
Madeline: “Hi friends! About a month ago, after a normal shower, my hair started falling out. At first, I attributed it to my chronic mom-bun habit, and assumed I just hadn’t allowed my hair to fall out because I had been wearing it up too much. But then my hair didn’t stop falling out.
I have been to see my primary care doctor, who said he suspects alopecia areata. He ordered lots of blood work and referred me out to a dermatologist. I’m expecting blood work results any day, and my appointment with the dermatologist is at the end of October. I also have an appointment with a naturopathic doctor next week, who I’m hoping can offer some advice for healing my body internally! Topical treatments are effective in the short term, but to get long-term results, you have to treat the cause.
It’s been a little over a month, and I’ve lost about 70-80% of my hair. It’s patchy and thin, and the bald spots are increasingly hard to hide. I’ve been wearing headbands every day. My wonderful sister bought me a super fun, synthetic wig that I love wearing. Synthetic wigs are fairly inexpensive, but they’re also not very durable. Real, human-hair wigs can be washed, styled, and slept in, just like the hair that grows on your head. They’re also very expensive. Quality real-hair wigs cost $1000 or more. Whether my hair grows back or not, the journey is going to be a long one. Whitney told me she wanted to start this GoFundMe to help me buy a wig, and I am humbled to accept this help. Thanks for loving me. I am so thankful for all of you!”
We appreciate any support you have to offer! Please share this campaign with your friends and family!
Thank you!
