Madeline Shinaman was born on January 18, 2004 with a severe and complex congenital heart defect known as Tetralogy of Fallot, Pulmonary Atresia, Atrial and Ventricular Septal Defects, and MAPCA's.
Maddie has had 4 heart surgeries and 13 heart catherizations. She suffered a stroke during her first open heart procedure, left vocal cord paralysis, and numerous blood transfusions. A few of Maddie's surgeries were performed at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, FL. However, due to the complexity of her heart defect, her most recent heart surgeries have been performed at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital (Stanford) in California, by one of the best renowned pediatric Cardiothoracic surgeons in the world, Dr. Frank Hanley. Dr. Hanley pioneered and developed the unifocalization for MAPCA's. This procedure helped transform Maddie's life and relieved her of her dependency to oxygen at the age of 5.
Maddie is scheduled for another heart procedure at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital in California on December 17, 2019. She will undergo a heart cath and a Transcatheter Pulmonary Valve replacement (Melody Valve). The medical and travel expenses will continue to grow in the weeks and months ahead and pose a significant financial hardship. Many have asked what they can do to help. Maddie's journey to recovery is a long one and has been since she was born. Your financial support and continued prayers can help alleviate the burden of the medical, lodging, and travel expenses.
Thank you and God Bless!
