Maddy's Cancer Recovery

Hi everyone!!

A very good friend of mine and one of the most kind, caring people I know needs help. In the last two years Maddy lost both of her parents, her father very suddenly and then her mother, whom she cared for until the end, to cancer. She took in her nephew when he needed it and helped shape him into the man he is now.

I have never before met someone who is so willing to give even when it means going without for herself. She goes out of her way to make other's days brighter even though she gets nothing in return. She has been there whenever I needed her. I think she just genuinely loves to see people happy. I really can't say enough good things about her, I am truly grateful I get to call her a friend.

She needs my help now, and I can't do it alone. Recently Maddy was diagnosed with cancer. Fortunately it is early and hopefully hasn't had time to spread, but she needs major surgery to have it removed. Her doctors say it needs to happen now, but the recovery will be 6-8 weeks long, during which time she can't work. As she is self employed she will have no income for this period of time, and she is going to put the surgery off for another month, against medical advice, because she is afraid of what will happen if she can't pay her bills.

Maddy needs the surgery now, to hopefully catch the cancer before it spreads. I'm afraid she may not have another month to wait before that happens. I cannot imagine having to decide between life-saving surgery and having a place to live. I cannot imagine having to worry about anything on top of fighting cancer, and I don't want her to have to.

Now I'm going to ask for your help.

You all know Paul and I are getting married soon, and some have asked if we were going to have a registry. I would like to ask anyone who was thinking about giving us a wedding gift to please donate to Maddy instead. Anyone who has been affected by cancer, anyone who is lucky enough to know Maddy, anyone who is just feeling generous, please consider giving something, anything. Your gift will go to paying Maddy's bills while she is recovering from surgery, and I hope it will be enough to support her on the days when the chemotherapy and radiation are too much and she feels too sick to work. Maddy is a survivor and has always worked and supported herself, but I want to give her the freedom to take off those days when she's really sick, without worrying about anything but getting better.

Please, if you are able, consider giving so that this wonderful woman can have the surgery she needs quickly, and worry not about bills but about getting healthy.
