Hi, my name is Brittney Cosmo, and I’ve had the incredible honour of coaching Maddy Lubera for the past two years. If you’ve ever seen Maddy play, you know she’s a force on the ice — tenacious, fiercely talented, and absolutely determined. She’s one of those rare players who truly has what it takes to make it to the NCAA Division 1 level, and she’s been on a clear path to get there.
But now, that dream is at risk.
While attending a recent ID camp — a crucial opportunity for exposure to D1 scouts — Maddy suffered a traumatic injury during gameplay, crashing hard into the boards. She was rushed to the hospital with a dislocated shoulder, but further scans revealed the full extent of the damage:
- Bony Bankart Lesion
- Full-thickness Labral Tear
- Humeral Avulsion of the Glenohumeral Ligament
The injury is serious, and surgery is absolutely necessary for Maddy to make a full recovery and continue her development as a high-level athlete.
Here’s the heartbreaking part: Ontario’s public healthcare system has an 8–10 month wait time for surgery. For Maddy, that delay could mean missing her entire upcoming season — a season that’s critical for her NCAA eligibility and scholarship prospects.
Maddy and her parents are doing everything in their power to ensure she doesn’t lose this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. That means seeking care out of province, in Quebec, where she can get the surgery much sooner. But the cost is high — $26,000, not including travel or rehabilitation expenses.
We’re reaching out to our community, to friends, family, fellow athletes, and anyone who believes in second chances and chasing your dreams. Maddy has given her all to hockey, and now we’re asking for your help to give her the chance to fight for her future.
Every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to getting her back on the ice — where she belongs.
Please help #MobilizeForMaddy by donating, sharing, and supporting in any way you can. Let’s rally around her and make this surgery happen.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
