The social media world watched as Maddison Baca graduated high school. We watched as she went to nursing school and we all celebrated when she became a Labor & Delivery Nurse. She quickly became one of the most loved nurses - and why not? She comes from a family known for their love and service to families.
In 2019, we celebrated when Maddison announced her pregnancy. Like so many other families, COVID changed the plans women had for how and where they wanted to birth their babies. Maddison was no exception. Maddison switched to home birth for the arrival of her daughter. Little did she know, that birth would change her life in more ways than one.
Maddison spent 2020 working tirelessly alongside my team to get what she needed to test for her CPM license (Certified Professional Midwife). This is a nationally recognized license to practice midwifery. The state of Arizona will also require her to become an LM (Licensed Midwife) - but that's a little later.
As a student midwife, she spent countless hours in prenatal appointments, attending births, studying and checking on moms and babies in the postpartum period. All while committing to exclusively breastfeeding her own daughter - which is incredibly challenging when your "job" calls you away suddenly and for long periods of time.
Well, she did it! She finished all that was required for the apprenticeship phase of her training. Don't worry - she will still be around but she will now transition to studying and finishing up paperwork so that she can take the NARM exam which will ultimately give her the title of CPM.
A midwifery apprenticeship is EXPENSIVE. It requires time and money to be spent to learn; fees to submit paperwork and to take the test and money to establish and purchase equipment to build a practice. I would love to bless Maddison with some funds to help make this easier on her.
If Maddison blessed you during your birth or pregnancy; if she's loved on you as a doula, nurse or student midwife or if you simply love Maddison and the Sunshine family - then I'm asking for your help. I'm hoping people will give generously, knowing full well that 2020 was a hard year for everyone. If you can donate, please consider doing so. Every penny will help!
Here's a list of some of what Maddison needs to pay for:
Application fees: $1000
NARM Exam: $1100
Study Material: $300
Midwifery supplies and equipment: $4000
Thank you in advance for loving on Maddison! I am so excited to see what 2021 has in store for Maddison and Family First Midwifery!
Love,
Jetta
