Back in February, Maddie discovered a lump in her abdomen. Because of the frustrating gaps in our healthcare system, we still don’t have clear answers about what exactly it is. Here’s what we do know:

There’s a complex mass over 9 centimeters in size that will need to be surgically removed and biopsied to determine next steps and any potential further treatment.  She hasn’t been able to work for nearly a week due to pain, nausea, and dizziness—and she won’t be able to speak with an oncologist until July 15th. In the meantime, the bills are starting to pile up.

Maddie is one of my oldest friends, the mother of our child, and someone who has shown up for me through every season of life since we first met as wide-eyed young people in San Francisco all those years ago. I know she’s been there for many of you, too. Now she needs us.
