Maddie’s Journey: Condylectomy scheduled 10-6-21

May 5th 2021. Our hearts were shattered into a million pieces when I arrived home to find our 8 year old dog brutally attacked by the neighbor dog. We did everything we could but it wasn’t enough for our sweet boy. The house was quiet. The kids asked where Max went. Our other dog waited for Max to come through the door. Our eyes were raw from the pain of losing Max. I knew I needed to bring happiness into our home.

That’s when I stumbled upon this event at SPCA where the adoption fees were significantly low. After thinking about it all day and FINALLY getting my husband to agree, I rushed out of the house and found myself standing at SPCA’s door. I told them I was looking for a puppy. They said there was only one puppy left. One that was passed up by everyone that day (I showed up just minutes before closing). I knew right then, it was fate.

Maddie had been passed up by everyone there looking at cute puppies because she has a jaw deformation. She has what is called TMJ and condylectomy is the next step. For now, she can eat and is growing well. But because she can’t open her mouth there is a very real chance of her choking, overheating, dental disease, and even a very painful future.

I believe everything happens for a reason. I may not understand it. I may not like it. But it all happens for a reason. I believe Maddie was there waiting for me to come pick her up. I’ve only ever owned rescue animals and I believe the reason I lost Max was because it was time to save Maddie. Max started my desire for rescuing animals and in his honor we rescued Maddie and named her after him.

Maddie saved my family and I from our crushing heart break. And now it is our turn to save her.
