Maddie is a 27 year old wife, mother, and kindergarten teacher in her small northern Illinois community. On November 18th, in her classroom with students she suffered a seizure that led to the discovery of tumor near the midline of her brain. It had effected the movement of her leg and after she had surgery on December 11th to remove the tumor she lost the movement of her right side completely for a couple of weeks. Maddie is a fighter although she was told she would not be able to get home until after December 27th, she was determined to do whatever needed to be done to get her home for Christmas with her 1 1/2 year old daughter. Shocked by her progress in therapy, doctors agreed that she could be released on December 21st, just 10 days after removing a cancerous tumor the size of a ping pong ball from her brain. Maddie has since gained enough strength to raise her arm over her head and can walk across the room without help. Her teaching soul moved her to keep a notebook with her to practice her hand writing daily and give her a visual reminder of how hard she has worked and how far she has come.Maddie and her husband have both been off work since her seizure to keep her safe from Covid prior to the surgery. Maddie is unable to make the 1 hour drive each way to her radiation and chemo scheduled daily, so Blake remains home to care for her and their daughter Gemma, and get her to and from her appointments and Dr visits back at UW Madison. They will be unable to work for at least another month.
Maddie is determined to get back in the classroom with her students and show them that she is a fighter and you have to push yourself to do things we sometimes take for granted. Until they can get back to work your donation will help them with transportation to her daily treatments and items that are not covered by insurance. Thank you for your prayers and encouragement, keep them coming!
