Maddie Wolin Mitzvah Project: The Pampered Pillowcase” Sisters Helping Sisters”

Hi.  My name is Maddie Wolin and I am 12 years old.  I am a student in the 7th grade at Roslyn Middle School. I am planning a special Mitzvah project as part of my becoming a Bat Mitzvah in January 2020. My torah portion Shemot discusses the courageous acts of women long ago and the impact they had made that forever changed the lives of the Jewish people. I have decided to spread joy and to brighten the lives of homeless women and children living at the Bethany House here on Long Island. The Bethany House provides residential options for women and children who are caught in the crisis of homelessness. The belief at the Bethany House is that each person there deserves and needs adequate food, clothing, and shelter and that it’s provided to them in a nurturing and sustaining environment.

In order to help these women and children, I’ve decided to start a mission on Long Island called The Pampered Pillowcase “Sisters Helping Sisters."  This amazing charity was first founded by my friends from Canada, Lexi and Amanda Benlolo. The focus of this charity is to help homeless women and children in need. This charity provides a pillowcase filled with items such as: pajamas, slippers, cozy socks, body lotion, brush/hair accessories, lip balm, nail polish, books and many other items that will help put a smile on the faces of these women and children.

Starting this Long Island Chapter is special to me because I am so grateful for everything I have. I am very lucky to have such a beautiful life. This mission shows that the community cares. My hope is that this simple gesture of kindness will help these women feel valued in the community and give them self worth, dignity and hope.  It will make them feel good too.  That is my mission.  It’s simply “sisters helping sisters!”

The Bethany House has provided me with a list of 12 women and 14 children.

Of course, there are always the essentials needed as well: baby bottles, diapers, baby formula, washcloths, tissues, toilet paper, hand soap, detergent, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, cleaning supplies and non-perishable food items such as instant oatmeal, juice boxes, pasta, cake mix, fruit snacks etc.

So help support me as I begin the Long Island Chapter of The Pampered Pillowcase.  I am asking that my friends and family embrace this mission. My hope is that this is the beginning of a beautiful endeavor that will have a tremendously positive impact on the lives of  homeless women and children living in our communities. Please make a donation so that I am able to fill these 26 pillowcases.

I have been working on this for so long and I am excited to to start making a difference right here on Long Island!!  It’s almost time for the holiday season and I know the Bethany House will love receiving these pillowcases.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATION TO The Pampered Pillowcase and get ready to brighten the lives of so many!!

And please stay tuned. I will be organizing and holding a Pampered Pillowcase Stuffing Party in few weeks as I get closer to my goal and start shopping!!!

Thank you!!

xoxo
