Madaline's Surgery

Donation protected
I was contacted last spring about a senior Black Labrador that was surrendered to an over-crowded Kentucky shelter. Madaline was a house pet all her life and was so confused about why she was abandoned by her family. Luckily I found a foster home quickly and she was flown north via Pilots N Paws.

Upon arrival we noticed a significant lump on her chest. To me it felt like the size of a grapefruit and once we did her blood work, we would decide when we could have that removed. Blood work revealed she was infected with Rocky Mountain spotted fever and she had a below normal thyroid and also an elevated liver enzyme value. She wasn't in foster care long as we did find a Foster to Adopt home for her locally and they helped medicate her for over 3 months in preparation for her upcoming surgery.

On Tuesday, September 14th, Dr. Treat at Homestead Animal Hospital spent over 2 hours trying to remove the large tumor that was in the muscle field and also wrapped around her carotid artery. It was a significant operation that required many interior stitched and outside stitches and a drain. We were worried about complications, but thankfully the 3 months of building her up and getting the blood born RMSF infection under control has helped her recover.

Madaline's complete vetting is over $2000, but the Live Like Roo Foundation is going to help with some of the surgery expenses. We would appreciate your support to help us continue saving senior dogs in need.
