Madagascar tourist guides' pandemic hardship fund
Donation protected
Madagascar's guides, drivers and others who rely on tourism are struggling. Due to the pandemic, the country's borders have been closed since the end of the 'off season' in March, and so they have had no income to support themselves and their families for a full year – with little prospect of work until at least the latter half of 2021.
This GoFundMe is an initiative by an alliance of UK-based tour operators and other organisations in a bid to alleviate the hardship currently being faced by park guides and other freelancers in Madagascar as a result of the ongoing collapse of the tourism sector.
We aim to help as many people as possible by distributing 400,000-Ariary grants to those in the most dire need of help. The more money that is donated, the larger the number people who will benefit from these grants. Local operator Za Tours have agreed to take charge of the distribution of funds in-country. Guides and others reliant on tourism across the whole island are eligible for assistance from this fund.
