Mac's Medical Expenses

Donation protected
My dad's name is Clarence Reedy, but he goes by "Mac." He's always had health problems. He struggled with depression, diabetes, kidney disease and heart disease all through my childhood, even while he taught for 26 years at the local school.

When he retired in fall of 2013, my first semester of college, his health started to go more downhill. At some point he had a stroke, which went undetected until recently; he went on four years of dialysis to cleanse his blood because his single kidney could no longer function; he had several more heart attacks, none of which his pacemaker/defibrulator detected; he was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease due to the extreme pain in his back; he required oxygen at all times; and he developed a compression chest wound that became an infection and lasted almost a year, even with a wound vacuum. He had so many medical problems that he couldn't even garden, which was his favorite thing in the world.

On Wednesday, May 24, just a couple weeks after I'd graduated from college and come home to take care of him, my mom left for her job at school on a normal morning. My dad and I climbed into the truck so I could take him to dialysis. Suddenly, he wasn't there. I carried him out of the truck and did CPR on him for 30 minutes until the paramedics arrived. He was put on life support in the hospital, where over the next few days doctors explained that he'd suffered further brain damage and that there was barely any activity in the brain stem.

My dad passed away at 11:34 pm on Memorial Day, 2017. We loved him very much.

Because of his many illnesses, we now owe a lot in medical expenses. The dialysis bill alone is $4,000, and then there are hospital fees, equipment rental fees, and other expenses that insurance expects us to pay.

We've never had much money, but we've been able to get by. Unfortunately, now the odds are stacked against us. I just graduated from college and, because of my full-time job taking care of my dad, am now behind in the job search and will be facing student loan repayment soon. My mom works as an English teacher, but her salary alone will not be enough to support us and pay these bills. We were already on payment plans with hospital bills before this tragedy.

Thank you so much to anyone who donates. Any little bit will help us pay my dad's final expenses and keep the medical bills from overwhelming us. Even if you cannot donate, bless you for your time and kind thoughts. Thank you.
