Mackenzie is 8 years old. She has autism and is nonverbal. She was diagnosed at 2 years old. She’s a level 3, and has required therapy for the last 7 years. We’ve had wrap around services, early intervention, occupational therapy, and speech. She has limited communication skills, development delays, struggles to regulate emotions, has OCD tendencies, and anxiety. We started on medications about two years ago and with new medication we see some progress then regression. We’ve recently started a new medication- antipsychotics- one that I didn’t want to have to put her on, but her aggression has gotten to self harming and harming those around her. As her mom, I’m looking into stem cell therapy to help lessen the severity of her symptoms and improve her quality of life. It wouldn’t be a cure but I would hope that it would help her. We’ve been on the struggle bus for the last 3 years since starting school and meds and I just want to try every available option for my sweet girl. I know she’s in there.
