Dear whoever is taking the time to read this,
After much discussion with others & debates with myself, I have decided to start this GoFundMe. To be honest, it feels weird asking for money, but it's for something I am very passionate about.
In 2014, I completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training. Because of the emotional state I was in at the time, it was A LOT of hard work to finish. It's a lot of hard work to begin with, but add depression, anxiety and self harm on top of that and you're in for an interesting ride. But I did it and I felt so accomplished for making it through.
I spent the next year and a half arguing with myself about whether or not to teach because I was terrified to speak in front of people. I was just getting by doing little day jobs that I didn't really enjoy. I was lying to myself, saying that I wasn't sure what I wanted to do for work, that yoga teachers don't make money, etc.- which some of that is true- but really it was the fear.
Finally, last May I decided- fuck it (excuse my language), I'm gonna do it. So I dove in head first. I reached out to every yoga studio within 10 miles of my house. And living in Los Angeles, where yoga is on every single corner like a Starbucks, that was about 80 studios.
I quickly began teaching full time. And that fear started to dissipate, only after breaking out in hives for my first ten or so classes :). I fell in love again with something that brings me so much joy and actually lessens my depression & anxiety.
Practicing yoga teaches me to be kind to myself. To breathe deeply when things get tough. To remember that the bad stuff will pass and I'll come out stronger than before. To be kinder to everyone around me because we're all going through this thing together.
Teaching yoga allows me to help others, too. It is an honor to teach 1 student or 50 students, to guide them through their practices and help them come out on the other side. I get to see myself in them. I truly believe we can start to change the world one yoga class at a time.
So if you're still reading this- first, thank you.
Second, the entire reason for this GoFundMe is to raise money so I can continue my education by taking another 300 hours of teacher training. Because I am always a student and I need to remain teachable in order to grow into my best self. Like I briefly mentioned earlier, yoga instructors don't make an insane amount of money- not even close haha- and trainings are expensive as hell (again, excuse my language. I have a sailor's mouth, I know).
Every cent adds up and I'm extremely grateful for anything you decide to donate. Even if you don't, thank you for reading this entire thing!
Donate $1-24 I'll guest you at a studio class (*at select studios whom allow me to bring guests).
Donate $25 I'll give you a 30 minute private yoga session.
Donate $50 I'll give you a 60 minute private yoga session.
