Help Mackerel recover from a rooftop jump!

Been hesitant to post as the entire incident has been beyond traumatic but wanted to share the story of #thecatwholived with the many friends, family, and strangers who have wished him well. . A little under 2 weeks ago, #mackerelthesilver aka #thesqueaker got spooked and jumped off the roof of my 6 story building. He landed alive but severely injured in an airshaft on cement. We @uber rushed to the @amcny emergency room where they initially recommended we put him down due to the severity of his many injuries and the enormously significant cost that would be needed to save him. After a lot of questions about potential recovery, quality of life, and looking at him straight in the eyes , I decided we had to try saving him. The following days in the ICU were tough as it was day by day to stabilize him enough for surgery. He’s a fighter and made it through 2 major surgeries (3 broken legs, broken front toes, pelvis, shoulder, and jaw) like a champ and was discharged 10 days later. He’s now recovering at home where I’m on 24/7 ⏰ nurse and PT duty. The squeaker is lively as ever (even on a cocktail of meds !) and melting hearts of everyone he meets. Nine lifetimes of thanks to the nursing, ICU, and surgical staff @amcny for taking such good care of him.
