Mackenzie's Recovery
Donation protected
Dear Family, Friends, and Community,
My name is Dominique Evans, on March 8th, 2024 at approximately 3 pm my sister, Mackenzie Evans, and her friend were walking down 5th Avenue in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA when a car turned onto the sidewalk and hit them. Her friend luckily had minimal injuries but Mackenzie was left with two broken feet, leaving her non-weight bearing for six weeks. After being discharged from the hospital, Mackenzie was sent to a skilled nursing facility where her mother, on a work leave of absence, has been caring for her. On Tuesday, March 26th she will receive surgery on her left foot and ankle–the right foot will heal on its own without surgery.
While we are so fortunate that this incident was not life-threatening, these injuries have caused a tremendous amount of stress and emotional strain on Mackenzie. As a Junior at the University of Pittsburgh, she is now forced to complete the rest of the semester online and cease all of her extracurricular activities such as Resident Assistant, and her part-time job as a barista. Funds are needed to help cover dire costs such as transportation to get her home safely to her family in Washington D.C., and medical expenses. Any donation, big or small, is extremely appreciated!
Thank you,
