For the past 12 years, I (Mackenzie) have suffered from joint and spinal issues that have been primarily been resolved with 7 spinal surgeries. Over the past few months, I have noticed symptoms returning which worsened in August. After reviewing a CT of my spine, it was determined I would need to undergo an emergency surgery to resolve the problem. We scheduled my surgery as soon as possible (the end of September). 

I moved to East Africa nearly 3 years ago with my husband, Nick, and we have been doing humanitarian work focused on women's empowerment and education. We are also foster parents to 3 incredible children. Because we live abroad, we do not have health insurance in the US which means every medical expense for this surgery must be paid out of pocket. 

The urgent need is $35,000 by September 18th. This will cover deposits in order to move forward with the surgery. Following this amount, we anticipate at least $5,000 more in expenses to cover other medical service providers' fees, medication, follow up care, and travel. This is a daunting hurdle but we have been amazed in how our community always shows up to support us.
