MDH Project for Mothers & Children

Hello my name is Elijah. I am an aspiring Medical student  currently on a gap year working towards a project at Machinga District hospital, Malawi; a hospital I visited during the summer of 2014 on a medical volunteering placement. I was able to experience the serious problems that developing countries suffering from diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Dengue Fever have to cope with on a daily basis.
I soon realised that some of these issues can easily be resolved or at least improved by little things that citizens in developing countries with good healthcare systems take massively for granted. I feel that this is a massive injustice especially to infants and their mothers, who are most heavily impacted by the lack of correct facilitation.
To put this into perspective, for 2015 the Maternal and infant mortality rate in the UK was 9 (per 100,000 live births) and 4 (per 1,000 live births) respectively whereas in Malawi the figures were 634 and 43
My aim for this project is to generate enough money to provide these small amenities that will make a big difference; such as surgical gloves, sterile equipment, cleaning supplies, oxygen pumps, hospital gowns and surgical masks.
I plan to travel to Malawi in April 2016 so over the next 3 months I will be accepting donations.
I would be massively grateful for any donation that you are able to give. In situations like this a small gesture from yourself can go a long way and change the lives of many others.
